It is breaking news on the airwaves suggesting principals and head teachers have threaten a sit down strike on the eve of the reopen of schools on September 8 this year. The reason for the sit down strike revolves around the very late payment of subsidies, the absence of school materials and the redundancy of over four thousand teachers without a suitable replacement. The Conference of principals and head teachers met and came out with a communiqué which outlined their position and that is a sit down strike. Parents and Guardians including the school going children are in a state of dilemma, considering the preparations which are ongoing to meet the needs of sending children to school at the start of the academic year.
As if to add more wounds to the injury already inflicted, CARL the NGO for accountability has released a report on the school feeding programme. Going by the report there is certainly nothing worthwhile writing about more so indicating the late arrival of food items and the absence of quality. An aspect of the report state that before the rice supply arrives it cannot be suitable for human consumption with the presence of weevils.
Due to the bad roads on hard to reach areas the vehicles cannot reach the destination and therefore off load the rice in distance which causes huge strain on the school authorities to transport the rice. The items needed for preparing the soup become a challenge. Sources say the schools children are asked to contribute. Those who are put in charge are encourage to step up and address the challenges face with the school feeding programme.
