President Bio Champions Unity Within the SLPP
President Julius Maada Bio has reaffirmed his commitment to peace and unity within the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) during the recently concluded 14th Party Convention. His resolve was clear from the onset of the event, where tensions were high surrounding the election of a new executive to oversee party affairs.
Addressing delegates at the start of the convention, President Bio, as party leader, strongly advocated for a free, fair, and transparent electoral process. He firmly stated that he had no preferred candidate and would not interfere in the outcome.
Throughout the two-day delegates’ conference, President Bio played an active role in ensuring calm and fairness. On the second day, the SLPP Electoral Commissioner clarified the voting process, which initially raised concerns among some delegates. President Bio urged all delegates to follow the commissioner’s instructions, emphasizing that the process was a vital rehearsal for upcoming national elections.
To cast their votes, delegates were asked to either fingerprint or sign for their chosen candidates—an approach that helped resolve prior confusion. President Bio remained seated and observant until the final votes were counted and the winners officially declared.
His impartial leadership set the tone for the event’s peaceful conclusion. The results were accepted by all, and candidates demonstrated unity through respectful handshakes. President Bio later reaffirmed his support for the democratic process during a live interview on Epic Radio’s morning show.
