Efforts to undermine the credibility of Brima Baluwa Koroma, Director General of the National Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NPRA), have collapsed, reinforcing his reputation as a principled and results-driven public servant.
In what appeared to be a coordinated smear campaign, a wave of leaked documents, manipulated claims, and anonymous accusations were spread online, aiming to discredit Mr. Koroma’s leadership. However, the attempt quickly unraveled as no credible evidence supported the allegations.
“Integrity Under Fire, But Not Shaken”
Mr. Koroma, known for his strict adherence to transparency, accountability, and reforms in Sierra Leone’s petroleum sector, has led the NPRA with distinction. Under his leadership, the agency has made significant progress in modernizing operations and aligning them with global standards.
It is precisely this reformist approach that made him a target. His refusal to compromise on regulatory decisions, despite pressure from vested interests, triggered the backlash.
“Public Rejects the Smear Campaign”
Once the smear tactics surfaced, both the public and media swiftly noticed inconsistencies and the absence of any factual basis. The campaign, driven by individuals threatened by Mr. Koroma’s integrity, failed to gain traction. Instead, it exposed the desperation of those opposed to transparency and fair play.
“Widespread Support for Mr. Koroma”
In response to the failed plot, support has poured in from across government, civil society, and the petroleum industry. Stakeholders condemned the attack as a dangerous assault on professionalism and accountability.
“Mr. Koroma has nothing to hide,” said an NPRA insider. “He remains focused, disciplined, and committed to the work. Those who oppose his transparency are afraid of progress.”
“Strengthened, Not Weakened”
Rather than deter him, the attack has only deepened Mr. Koroma’s resolve. With renewed public backing, he continues to prioritize petroleum regulation, energy security, and accountability.
He has not issued emotional rebuttals. Instead, he has let his track record speak for itself—firm in the belief that truth doesn’t need to shout.
“A Clear Message”
As one statesman put it, “When the enemy rises against you with lies, stand tall and let your record speak.” Mr. Koroma’s experience is a testament to that truth. Not only did the smear campaign fail, it reinforced the values Sierra Leone must hold dear if it is to progress.
The message is simple: You can’t bring down a man who stands on principle.
