Immigration Department Opens Four Regional Headquarters, Decentralizes Services

The Sierra Leone Immigration Department (SLID) has announced the establishment of four Regional Headquarters Offices across the country as part of efforts to decentralize immigration services and bring them closer to the public.

In a Public Notice dated 5th October 2026 with Reference No. SLIS/PRU/PN/004/2026, the Department said the move is part of its continued efforts to widen public access to essential immigration services.

Members of the public will no longer need to travel to Freetown for all immigration matters. The public is now encouraged to visit the Regional Headquarters Office nearest to them for enquiries, applications and other immigration-related matters.

This includes services such as issuance and renewal of passports, residence permits, visa matters, and other related services, although the Department has not yet published a full list of services available at regional level.

The four Regional Headquarters are:

1. Southern Region – Bo

Address: 19 Reservation Road, Bo.

2. Eastern Region – Kenema

3. Northern Region – Makeni

4. North-Western Region – Port Loko

The Department said it remains firmly committed to enhancing efficiency, accessibility and quality of service delivery across the country.

The decentralization is expected to reduce congestion at the Immigration headquarters at 14 Gloucester Street, 4th Floor, Freetown, cut travel costs for citizens in the provinces, and improve turnaround time for passport and permit processing.
